At the age of almost nine, Nolan made her debut on television on February 5, 1974, when The Nolans appeared on the It’s Cliff Richard! television program. They played “Stuck on You” as The Nolan Sisters, a line-up consisting of all six sisters.

They released their first single, “But I Do,” the following year, with Nolan handling lead vocals. Nolan does appear in the music video for the group’s 1979 hit “I’m In the Mood for Dancing,” which peaked at number three on the UK singles chart, but she would not join the group as a full-time member until 1980 when she was fifteen. With “Don’t Make Waves” (1980), “Gotta Pull Me Together” (1980), “Who’s Gonna Rock You” (1981), “Attention to Me” (1981), “Chemistry” (1981), and “Don’t Love Me Too Hard” (1982), the group scored further UK top twenty hits. Their performance of “Sexy Music” helped them win the Tokyo Music Festival in 1981.

Along with her sisters Anne, Bernie, and Maureen, Nolan had an appearance in the BBC comedy Filthy Rich & Catflap on January 14, 1987.[Reference needed] For their cover versions of Japanese pop songs, the group received a 33rd Japan Record Awards Kikaku-sh (Prize for Planning) in 1991.
