Gillon Mclachlan Career

McLachlan was raised on the family farm Rosebank in Mount Pleasant, South Australia. His parents are Sylvia and Angus, a former first-class cricket player. The other three brothers are named Hamish, Will, and Banjo. He is the oldest of the four. The long-serving President of the South Australian Cricket Association (until 2014) and Minister for Defence in the Australian government was his uncle, Ian McLachlan.

McLachlan participated in the Hills Football League colts division while playing Australian football for the now-defunct Pleasant Valley club. After relocating to Melbourne (VAFA), he played amateur football with the Melbourne University Blues. He served as the club’s ruckman from 1994 to 2003, served as captain from 2000 to 2002, won the C.W.

McLeod Trophy for best-and-fairest in 2000, served on the committee, and was inducted into the club’s life membership in 2003. He was both a captain and a regular VAFA Representative. He was on the supplementary list for the Carlton Football Club from 1996 to 1997. McLachlan has represented Victoria in polo and held the position of national selector.
