Chris Rock and thousands of Burning Man festival-goers shelter in place amid severe storms

The Burning Man Festival 2023 is not going as planned.

Thousands of attendees have flocked to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to attend the annual festival. That includes famous assistant Chris Rock. However, the festivities have been marred by severe storms in the area, leading to a “shelter in place” order.

Chris has documented part of the experience when attendees were trapped on the ground.

In an expired post on his Instagram Story seen by ET, Chris explained that the situation wasn’t ideal. “Reportedly, due to flooding, the portable toilets cannot be emptied. And since the doors are closed, people can’t come in to fill the generators or deliver supplies,” he explained.

He also uploaded a short video showing that the terrain in the area had been reduced to a muddy mess that was difficult to navigate.

Burning Man organizers took to X (formerly Twitter) to keep attendees informed about what was happening. They also urged other people who had not yet arrived at the festival to stay away.

“To anyone at BRC, please help each other stay safe. The gate and airport in and out of Black Rock City remain closed. Entry and exit are suspended for the moment. “Stay prepared for severe weather conditions that will continue overnight and into Saturday,” they posted Friday (September 1) night.

The account shared several messages from another account about traffic at the festival: “Don’t travel to Black Rock City! Access to the city is closed for the rest of the event and will be turned around,” one reads.

“Don’t travel to Black Rock City! Access to the city is closed for the rest of the event and they will turn you around,” another noted.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more and hope everyone on the festival grounds is safe.
