NBC commentators Mike Tirico and Jason Garrett had a hilariously baffling situation involving Taylor Swift during Saturday’s game. Garrett joined Tirico in the booth to provide commentary on the Kansas City Chiefs’ triumphant playoff victory against the Miami Dolphins.
The former Dallas Cowboys head coach sat near the queen of pop music sensation. Taylor Swift, supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce, watched the game from a suite, protected from the frigid temperatures in Kansas City. Garrett and Tirico, who announced the game on Peacock, were just feet away from the “Bad Blood” hitmaker.
In the fourth quarter, Mike Tirico humorously commented that fans mistakenly pointed their cameras at the broadcast booth, thinking they were capturing shots of Jason Garrett. Unbeknownst to them, his true intention was to catch a glimpse of Taylor Swift.
“So I’m not exactly sure where Taylor Swift is in the stadium, right? Because we are just sitting here watching the game,” Tirico said. “There she is. So for the last quarter and a half, there have been people (watching) here and I said, ‘Man, they must love Jason Garrett.’ Everyone points their camera at our booth to take a picture of Jason . And then about 10 minutes ago, it was like, ‘Hey, dummy, they’re taking a picture of Taylor.'”
“The worst part is that I’ve been waving the whole time,” Garrett responded. Mike Tirico realized that he could capture a photo of Taylor Swift from her vantage point in the broadcast booth if he pulled his camera away from her. Garrett jokingly expressed concern about Tirico falling through the open window.
Of course, the images of the error were published in X (formerly Twitter).

NFL Fans Inclined to Defend Mike Tirco’s Taylor Swift Lack of Knowledge
Although the exchange went viral on social media, many NFL fans came to Mike Tirico’s defense for not knowing where Taylor Swift was in the stadium. “Since she’s not a player, I don’t see any reason why he should have worried about where she was,” one fan noted on X. Another NFL viewer agreed. “[Tirico’s] The job is to call the game…not fawn over the fact that a particular fan is present. This is getting OLD.”
Meanwhile, former sportscaster Mark Giangreco also chimed in: “Why should I know that? He’s playing the game. He sees her on his monitor. Who cares where the suite is? he wrote.
Anyway, after the game, Swift and Kelce were seen leaving together, hand in hand.
