Chris Meledandri is now employed at Walt Disney Pictures. He led the artistic and commercial activities of Blue Sky, which is currently Fox’s exclusive CGI studio. Meledandri oversaw and/or executive produced a number of films while at the company, such as “Ice Age,” “Ice Age: The Meltdown, Robots,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “The Simpsons” and “Dr. Seuss Horton Hears a Who!” In addition, he worked on two animated films that were both nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film: Gone Crazy and No Time For Nuts.
Entertainment Illumination, at the beginning of 2007, Meledandri resigned as president of 20th Century Fox Animation and founded Illumination Entertainment, a studio that produces pictures for every audience, and is co-owned by Universal Pictures, a studio that fully finances and controls films. Despicable Me, Illumination’s debut film, was released in 2010; followed by Despicable Me 2 in 2013 and Hop in 2011. Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax adapted Illumination into a film, continuing the productive partnership between Meledandri and Audrey Geisel, widow of Theodore (Dr. Seuss) Geisel. Additionally, he was a producer on the 2015 Minions spin-off film Dreamworks Animation and Illumination, on April 28,2016, NBCUniversal announced its intention to pay $3.8 billion to acquire rival company DreamWorks Animation. After the merger is completed, Meledandri will be in charge of both Illumination and DreamWorks.
