Chris Evans opens up about his initial thoughts on the Snow Punch script.
The 42-year-old actor starred in Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 film as Curtis, with Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer and Jamie Bell.
In a new interview, Chris explained why he had doubts about the script in the first place.

speaking to GQ In a new interview, Chris shared that his struggles stemmed from not understanding why all the events had to happen and why the structure of the train system was what it was.
“When I first read the script, I didn’t fully understand it. I was like, ‘So… what?’ Whenever it’s a world-building movie, you’re creating a completely separate environment. There’s a kind of presumption that you have to say, ‘Okay, so everyone accepts this, this is how it is? Isn’t anyone the least bit outraged that this is the structure? That’s the norm, okay.’”
Chris went on to say that as an actor, he had to make the decision to let go of the whys.
“You have to decide where in your brain you spend time thinking about it. Do you go the intimate route and just make it about the character? Are you trying to make it about what it took for that society to get to that place? the he shared he. “It’s a challenge, but you can see Tilda Swinton in the film and see her approach to this larger-than-life character.”
After putting his questions aside, Chris said that was when he could really trust Bong and the vision.
“Director Bong is a visionary. When you work with someone who knows exactly what he wants, even if it’s not exactly how you saw it, he builds trust,” says Chris. “As an actor, that’s the most important thing, trusting the director. Otherwise, you’re playing defense. Otherwise you’ll say, ‘Okay, this first take, well, I’ll do this, so I can at least protect that.’ Then I’ll try this, but I don’t want to try that because I don’t know if they know how to use that shot. Anything I give them can be used against me. And when you have a director who is so convinced of what his vision is, that’s when you say, ‘Great.’ If you say jump, I’ll say, “How high?”
Snow Punch It became a television series. It ended earlier this year.
