When Chhavi Ranjan was the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Koderma district in 2015, he had illegally cut five teak trees and one rosewood tree in the premises of Koderma District Council, following which an FIR was lodged at Markachho police station. An FIR was lodged at Bariatu Police Station, Ranchi in 2022 by Ranchi Municipal Corporation tax collector Dilip Sharma for illegal sale and purchase of 4.5 acres of Indian Army land and one acre of land in Cheshire Home Road area. ED investigation found that the real owner of the land was BM Laxman Rao who had handed it over to the Indian Army after independence. The syndicate made a person named Pradeep Bagchi the fake owner of land worth Rs 20 crore and sold it at a reduced price of Rs 7 crore to Dilip Kumar Ghosh, a person working for Jagatbandhu Tea Estate Private Limited, a West Bengal-based company. Bagchi was paid Rs 25 lakh and the remaining payment was shown to be paid through check in the name of the company; However, this was done to make the transaction appear genuine.
