- In 2019, during his stay in ‘Bigg Boss Kannada 7’ house, he created a big controversy where he used the word ‘untouchable’ for his co-contestant Deepika Das. He received heavy criticism from the public and Ambedkar Sena (which works for the welfare of the Scheduled Caste community). He later apologized and said that his intention was not to hurt any community.
- On 8 April 2021, he attempted suicide by drinking phenyl liquid at his home in Kolar, Karnataka at 5 am. Upon investigating the entire matter, the local police found that Chaitra’s husband’s (Nagarjuna) parents were against their marriage and they ended their marriage on the very day they were married.
Nagarjuna said that he did not want to marry Chaithra and that Chaithra had forced him to marry her. Chaitra, on the other hand, said,
They attacked my brothers, beat up and injured my elderly parents. He humiliated our family in front of the public. When I went to the police station to complain, their brother-in-law came and requested me to give them two days’ time so that they could sit and discuss with the families later. I agreed, but he betrayed me by breaking his assurance and filing a complaint against the police without my knowledge. This double game made me sad.”
Before attempting suicide, she made a video accusing her husband of harassing her.
