Carmelo Anthony announces his retirement from the NBA, says his legacy is not basketball but his son

Carmelo Anthony has officially announced his retirement from the NBA.

“Now the time has come to say goodbye to the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride,” the 38-year-old basketball player said in a video.

Carmelo played 19 seasons in the NBA. He is a former 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA.

Carmelo retires as the No. 9 scorer in NBA league history.

In 2021, LaLa Anthony filed for divorce from Carmelo after being married for 11 years and together for 16 years. They share their son Kiyan, a high school shooting guard.

“The time has come for you to carry the torch,” said Carmelo. “My legacy, now and forever, lives on through you. My legacy, my son… I will forever continue through you. The time has come for you to carry this torch.”

Last year, LaLa opened up about why her marriage failed.
