Caleb Deschanel was born on September 21, 1994 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Joseph Caleb Deschanel, Ann Ward (née Orr) and Paul Jules Deschanel. Its origin is not clear. His father was French, and his mother was American, who raised him in the Quaker faith.
He was educated at Severn School. From 1962 to 1966 he attended John Hopkins University. Then, in 1968, he graduated from the University of Southern California School of Motion Picture Arts.
