Philadelphia Union
Jimmy McLaughlin joined the Philadelphia Union as the club’s second homegrown player on December 12, 2011.
On May 29, 2012, he made his professional debut as a substitute for Freddy Adu in a 3–0 victory over the Rochester Rhinos in the third round of the 2012 US Open Cup. On October 24, 2012, he made his MLS debut. , replacing Danny Cruz in the 73rd minute of the 1-2 loss against Sporting Kansas City.
Harrisburg City Islanders
He had previously been loaned to the Philadelphia Union’s third-tier affiliate, the Harrisburg City Islanders. McLaughlin had been loaned out on rare occasions by the affiliation until the 2014 season, when he was sent out on a season-long loan.
