In his sophomore season, Santos appeared in all 13 games and finished second on the team in scoring, hitting 11/18 field goals and 33/34 PATs while also handling kickoffs and punts, averaging 41 yard per kick.
Santos had a breakout season in 2012, going 26-of-27 on PATs (his only mistake was blocked) and a perfect 21-of-21 on field goals, including a school-record 57 yards. He became only the second hitter to make at least 20 in a season without a miss. Twelve field goals were 40 yards or more, two were 50 yards or more, and 31 of his 55 kickoffs resulted in touchdowns. After the season, Santos was named a consensus All-American[9] and awarded the Lou Groza Award as the best player in the country.
