Hours after her explosive social media rant about never returning to the music industry, Britney Spears decided to delete her Instagram account.
In the Instagram post, Spears cleared up rumors about any new projects she was supposedly working on. “To be clear, most of the news is garbage!!!” she declared. “They keep saying I’m going to random people to make a new album… I’m never going back to the music industry!!!”
Britney Spears was responding to claims from Page Six and The Sun that she was collaborating with Charli XCX and Julia Michaels for her first album in almost a decade. A source told The Sun that the new album will be kept top secret.
“The work has been going on behind the scenes for quite some time,” the source explained. “Putting together a series of incredible songs to bring Britney back strong. She is known as one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century, so the pressure is on for the music to be great.”
Speaking about Charli XCX, the source said: “Charli has a great track record when it comes to writing smart pop songs. She entered the studio at the beginning of the year to make some songs following Britney’s guidance on what she was looking for. She came up with a really strong song that is expected to appear on the album, which Britney’s team hopes will come out in 2024.”
Although she previously stepped away from music before ending her conservatorship, Britney Spears has worked on other projects. She collaborated with Elton John for hold me closer in 2022 and Will.i.am Take care of your own business last year.
Julia Michaels previously worked with Britney Spears on her 2016 album ‘Glory’
During an August 2017 interview with PEOPLE, Julia Michaels talked about collaborating with Britney Spears for 2016 album Glory. Michaels wrote and co-wrote several songs for the album, including Just love me, sleepover, and Better.
“The most surprising was probably Britney,” Michaels said of those she worked with. “I don’t think people realize how active she is in the studio. Many of the songs that she, Justin [Tranter, writing partner] and what I did together were its concepts, melodies and lyrics. I think the pop melody sensitivity is so ingrained in his brain that it sounds like pop music.”
Michaels pointed out that Britney Spears is exactly what everyone thinks she is. “She is down to earth, she is very humble and she just wants to make music and have fun. “She is no different from anyone else.”
