Brett Kavanaugh is an American Judge and Lawyer. Brett Kavanaugh is an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Moreover, he has served as a judge on the D.C. Court of Appeals.

His full name is Brett Michael Kavanaugh. He was born on 12 February 1965, in Washington, D.C., USA. At present, he is 57 years old and his birth sign is Aquarius. Moreover, he was previously a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and also worked as a staff lawyer for various offices of the federal government.

Brett started his career as a law clerk and then a postgraduate working under Judge Ken Starr. After Starr left the D.C. Circuit to become the head of the Office of Independent Counsel, Brett assisted him with various investigations concerning President Bill Clinton.

After the 2000 U.S. presidential election, he joined the Bush administration as White House staff secretary and was also a central figure in its efforts to identify and confirm judicial nominees. In 2003, Bush nominated Brett to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Similarly, his confirmation hearings were contentious and stalled for three years over charges of partisanship.

Ultimately, in May 2006, Brett was confirmed to the D.C. Circuit after a series of negotiations between Democratic and Republican U.S. senators. Similarly, President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court on July 9, 2018. Therefore, to fill the position vacated by retiring associate justice Anthony Kennedy.

Sexual Assault Allegations

Christine Blasey Ford, a Palo Alto University professor, came forward during Brett’s hearing and accused him of drunkenly pinning her down and sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers in the 1980s. Therefore, ‘The Washington Post’ published her account, where she said,

“I thought he might inadvertently kill me. He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”

But, Brett refuted the claims, saying,

“I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time.”

Then, a second woman also came forward just one week after Ford’s claim. Therefore, Deborah Ramirez alleged that he exposed himself to her at a party when they were both freshmen at Yale. But, Brett again denied the accusation, calling it “a smear, plain and simple.”

Likewise, a third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused him of sexually aggressive behavior while at alcohol-fueled parties in high school. And, after a two-day hearing, in which Ford and Brett both testified, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to advance Brett’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

Moreover, Republican Jeff Flake called for a one-week delay

“to let the FBI do an investigation limited in time and scope to the current allegations,”before the Senate ultimately decided to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Additionally, The Senate Judiciary Committee held a supplemental hearing over Ford’s allegations. In which, experts on sexual violence are characterized as credible. Then, it voted to advance the confirmation to a full Senate vote. The full Senate confirmed Brett by a vote of 50–48, on October 6.

Brett is married to his wife Ashley Estes. They first met when they were employed by the Bush administration. The two were married in July 2004 and have two daughters named Margaret and Liza.
