Bobby Kinnar is an Indian transgender politician and member of the Aam Aadmi Party. In December 2022, she became the first member of the transgender community to represent a ward in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Bobby Kinnar was born in 1984 (age 38 years; as of 2022) in Sultanpur, New Delhi. As soon as Bobby was born, his parents knew that he was different from other children. As she grew up, people started noticing changes in her and people started treating her differently. After passing 9th class he had to leave school because he was bullied and harassed in school. When Bobby was 15, her family was pressured by society to give her to the transgender community; In such a situation, Bobby was adopted by a transgender Guruji. Subsequently, she started living with the transgender community in Sultan Majra, where she became known as ‘Bobby Darling’.

Family
parents and siblings
Bobby’s father Om Prakash ran a small dhaba in Sultanpur area of Delhi. Bobby died when he was a child. She has a younger brother who works in a private company in Delhi. He also has a sister. He and his siblings were raised by their mother, who worked at odd jobs to support her family. When Bobby was 15, she was adopted by a transgender guru (deceased). In an interview, Bobby told that his biological mother loves him very much and she is still in touch with his family and visits them every month.

Bobby Kinnar was born in a Jatav family of Chamar caste (now called Dalit).
livelihood
As per the traditions of transgenders, Bobby would initially visit houses in her area, dance and sing on occasions like weddings and child births and ask for token money (congratulations). However, he did not like doing this and soon stopped following it.

Social Worker
At the age of 21, Bobby joined an NGO and learned to read and write there. As a part of the NGO, she got involved in social work like helping the needy people and providing education to underprivileged children. Bobby has also worked for the marriage of about 15 girls at his own expense. In 2011, he participated in Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement. As of 2022, Bobby is the president of the Delhi unit of Hindu Yuva Samaj Ekta Awam Anti-Terrorism Committee and has been associated with the firm for almost 15 years. Bobby also runs a primary school to educate less fortunate children in her area.
Politician
After becoming a part of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement, Bobby associated himself with the Aam Aadmi Party. After this he actively worked for the party. In 2017, she wanted to contest the Municipal Corporation elections in Delhi on Aam Aadmi Party ticket. However, he had to contest the election as an independent candidate as he was denied a ticket by AAP. During the election campaign, he accused all the parties of corruption and said that the parties were asking for money. Rs 50 lakh in exchange of ticket. She lost the election. In 2022, Aam Aadmi Party declared Bobby Kinnar as its candidate from Sultanpuri A Ward-43 for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, making Aam Aadmi Party the first political party in India to give ticket to a transgender. After getting the ticket, she addressed the media and said that she has come into politics for public welfare and if she wins the election, she will empower the transgender community. He said,
If I win the election, it will send a strong message and encourage transgenders to also come forward and identify themselves like before. Now people of our society are moving away from politics. There are many educated people in our society. I want all such people to come into politics and do social service so that our name also increases in the society.”
Further, while mentioning the problems of common people in his area, Bobby said that people have to pay bribe to get small works done and documents made. He said,
If I become a councilor, I will work to end corruption. I will not allow officials to take bribe and will get public work done for free.

During the election campaign he promised to provide funds for the education of less fortunate children and take the work of the Kejriwal government to the masses. In December 2022, Bobby Kinnar won the MCD election by defeating Indian National Congress candidate Varun Dhaka by a margin of 6,714 votes. While talking to the media after his win, Bobby thanked the people who worked hard for him. He said,
I want to dedicate my win to the people who worked so hard for me. I want to thank everyone. Now I just have to work for development in my field.”

Controversy
In May 2011, a person named Ramesh had filed a complaint against Bobby Kinnar at Mongol Puri police station. In his complaint, Ramesh alleged that Bobby along with other transgenders including Khalibuddin, Ram Babu, Lakshmi and Shobha hatched a criminal conspiracy to mutilate Ramesh’s private parts. Later, Ramesh moved the Rohini court to prosecute all the accused. In its final verdict, the court said that Ramesh opted for voluntary castration for financial gain.
