Stevin John, known as Blippi, is an American children’s entertainer on Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube. Blippi burst into the spotlight in 2014, delighting children around the world with his energetic personality and colorful costume of him. Blippi channeled the inner child into him while creating content, and it’s part of the reason kids became hooked on his content.
John gradually adapted his content so that it was not only fun but also educational. His shift in focus endeared him to happy parents who were excited to see their children learn while having fun. Blippi has over 16 million YouTube followers across her two channels.

Blippi initially pursued a career in the Air Force before being inspired by his 2-year-old nephew to become a children’s entertainer.
Stevin John was born on May 27, 1988 in rural Ellensburg, Washington. As a child, he dreamed of being a limo driver and a fighter pilot. John joined the United States Air Force as a loadmaster, but put aside his dreams of becoming a fighter pilot once he learned the grim realities of war. “I started to realize that war is real, and it’s not just fun and games and flying planes,” he said. In 2009, he started working as a video editor and marketing consultant for startups. His five-year stint as a marketer helped familiarize Blippi with SEO skills that would help popularize his children’s content in the future.
John always dreamed of starting his own company, but needed to identify a profitable niche before branching out on his own. In 2013, he noticed that his 2-year-old nephew was spending a lot of time on YouTube watching videos of tractors and bulldozers with upbeat music playing in the background. John decided to capitalize by creating his high-quality entertainment children’s channel.
He opted for live action videos because animation videos cost too much. With the help of her mother, Stevin created the iconic Blippi costume recognized by children around the world. He said crushable that his motivation was to entertain and educate children:
I love trying to get [kids] excited that they are actually learning something. I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on anything, but I know a hell of a lot about a lot of things. If I can give kids positive emotions by getting excited about learning things, then I’ve done my job from there.”
Blippi initially filmed and edited the videos himself, but over time he hired a crew to help him with video production. John doesn’t consider himself a celebrity since he is rarely recognized without his outfit, but Blippi is a celebrity. He said FunStudioInternational that it’s hard to film in public places when in costume: “When I’m in character, it’s extremely difficult to film in public places like zoos, playgrounds, aquariums, and the like.”

Before John took on the Blippi persona, he tried out dirty comedy under the name Steezy Grossman. In a nasty video from 2013, she performed the once-viral Harlem Shake and shit on a naked friend. John brilliantly and cleverly managed to keep the video hidden until BuzzFeed I found it in 2019. Blippi provided the following response when asked about the video in the post:
“At the time, I thought these kinds of things were funny, but they were really stupid and tacky, and I regret ever doing them. I’ve grown a lot since then and I’m confident that people will see me as the person I am now, not the idiot I was then.”
Many would find the grotesque video disturbing rather than funny, but the video’s release did not affect Blippi’s popularity. Parents were unwilling to deprive their children of the educational skills imparted by Blippi because of a video Steezy Grossman posted long ago. Blippi uses copyright laws to remove the video every time it appears on another site. He said Vice:
“It wasn’t the Buzzfeed report that prompted me to try to remove the video; I’ve been doing it for years, almost always and wherever I find it somewhere. On the other hand, filing a takedown notice hardly qualifies as going to ‘extreme lengths.’”
Other than that blip on the radar, Blippi has largely steered clear of controversy. However, in 2019, he was criticized for selling tickets for a tour that he was not participating in. It turned out that it wasn’t Blippi’s fault because it was clearly stated on his website that an impersonator would act in his place. However, the entertainer offered a refund to the aggrieved parents.
Blippi has a long-time girlfriend, but it’s unclear if she plans to start a family.
Blippi and his long-time girlfriend, Alyssa Ingham, have been dating for several years. John regularly posts photos of the couple on vacation or just hanging out together.
Blippi confesses that she loves children, but we’re not sure if she plans to have children of her own. He has yet to announce his future plans with Alyssa.
