In the popular sitcom/mockumentary Abbott Elementary, Ayo Edebiri will play Janine’s younger sister. According to the show, her character, Ayesha Teagues, and her sister’s relationship are distant and full of tension. Quinta Brunson plays Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams plays Gregory Eddie, Janelle James plays Ava Coleman, Lisa Ann Walter plays Melissa Schemmenti, Chris Perfetti plays Jacob Hill, Sheryl Lee Ralph plays Barbara Howard, and William Stanford Davis plays exactly like Mr. Johnson. Edebiri will appear in the upcoming Valentine’s Day edition of the show, which will air on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. She will return with a bigger storyline later in Season 2.
Ayo Edebiri is best known for her role in the movie Bear.
Edebiri was born in Boston on October 3, 1995, with roots in Barbados and Nigeria. Her passion for humor started in eighth grade drama class, then she joined the Boston Latin School improv troupe. She appeared on Comedy Central’s Up Next as a stand-alone and appeared in the web series Ayo and Rachel Are Single, which she co-wrote and starred alongside her friend and comedian Rachel Sennott. Edebiri continued to write for The Rundown alongside Robin Thede and NBC’s Sunnyside in their respective seasons.
She began writing for the animated show Big Mouth, but quickly switched to lending it to Missy when Jenny Slate stepped down. Dickinson’s second season on Apple TV+ includes her as a writer and actress. She even had a small role in the movie version of Jennifer E. Smith’s YA Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between book. Ayo Edebiri is best known for her role as Sydney Adamu in Hulu’s masterpiece The Bear. She has been nominated for a Gotham Award, Critics’ Choice Award and an Independent Spirit Award for her portrayal of a determined young sous chef. She currently co-produces and writes the screenplay for Mulligan, the Netflix animated series, and voices the lead role in We Lost Our Human. Ayo Edebiri even hosts a podcast called Iconography with Olivia Craighead, which features interviews with guests discussing idols who have influenced their lives.

What is the story of Abbott Elementary?
The sitcom, starring Quinta Brunson, follows the lives of teachers and staff at Abbott Elementary, a fictional predominantly black school in Philadelphia.
