Asha was born on 8 September 1933 (age 90 years; as in 2023) in Sangli, Maharashtra, British India. He was trained in classical music by his father Dinanath Mangeshkar along with his sister Lata Mangeshkar. She was very close to her sister Lata Mangeshkar in her childhood. Wherever Lata went, she took him with her; She also took Asha to her school. Asha was just nine years old when her father passed away. It was a difficult time for the family. He started acting and singing with his sister Lata Mangeshkar to support their family. He moved to Mumbai from Pune on the insistence of a family friend, Master Vinayak.
