Anoop Jalota was born as Anoop Jalota, on 29 July 1953 (70 years; as of 2023) in Nainital, Uttarakhand, India. He is extremely popular for singing devotional hymns and hence, he was given the nickname Bhajan Samrat, meaning emperor of hymns. Anoop received classical music education from his father Purushottam Das Jalota and Bhatkhande School of Lucknow. He was a good batsman during his college days. Jalota started his musical journey as a singer for the stage shows of legendary singer Kishore Kumar and was often referred to as Junior Kishore. After hard work and struggle, he was successful in getting a job as a chorus singer in All India Radio. With time, his bhajans started being liked by a larger section of the society and he became a household name for his bhajans.

Anoop Jalota married Sunali Rathod without the consent of her parents. Sunali was a student at that time and later emerged as a capable singer. The two became extremely famous and were called Anup and Sunali Jalota. Their marriage did not last long and they both got divorced. Later Sunali married famous singer Roopkumar Rathod.

Anup Jalota married for the third time to Medha Gujral, who later became Medha Jalota. Medha is the niece of former Prime Minister of India Inder Kumar Gujral. Medha Jalota divorced established director Shekhar Kapur in 1994. However, Medha Jalota died of liver failure in New York in the year 2004.

Anoop Jalota started his music career as a singer in stage shows with the great late Kishore Kumar and was often referred to as Junior Kishore.

After struggling in Mumbai, he initially got a job as a chorus singer in All India Radio, earning a salary of ₹350.

She got her big break when Manoj Kumar recorded four songs with her for the film Shirdi Ke Sai Baba, which later became huge hits.
