Anton Lesser was in Birmingham as an only child, raised by an architect father and housewife mother. Anton focused on his studies, encouraged by his father, and attended Moseley Grammar School, where he chose to read books and watch movies over participating in sports with his classmates. He matriculated in 1970, then attended the University of Liverpool, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1974. During his sophomore year he became interested in acting, and in 1975 he enrolled at the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where he graduated with a master’s degree from Veze in 1977, as did BANROFT, as well as BARCR.

Lesser is a frequent radio contributor who starred in the BBC adaptation of the first five mysteries of Marcus Didius Falco by Lindsey Davis. He has also recorded a number of audiobooks, including most of the works by Charles Dickens. He received a Talkie Award for his record Great Expectations. Other works include John Milton’s Paradise Lost and Homer, as well as more recent novels by Robert Harris (Fatherland) and Philip Pullman.
