Another Life Season 3 Won’t Happen, Sackhoff’s Show Cancelled By Netflix

Another Life season 3 won’t be happening, as Netflix cancel’s Katee Sackhoff’s show. Another Life is a sci-fi series created by Aaron Martin, who previously wrote for Degrassi: The Next Generation and Slasher. The series debuted in July 2019, with Sackhoff in the lead as Astronaut Niko Breckenridge. Another Life also featured fellow actors Samuel Anderson, A.J. Rivera, Justin Chatwin, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, and JayR Tinaco.

Another Life followed Breckenridge as she took her crew on a dangerous mission with no guarantee of safe return to investigate the origins of an alien artifact. Another Life season 2 saw the crew returning to Earth to utilize a virus, which collapses the artifact that served as the impetus for their journey. The season ends with various alien races opening wormholes to great mankind and allowing for travel between worlds, with Breckenridge’s crew ready for new missions. While the ending of season 2 left the door open for more, the third season of Another Life has officially been nixed.

Sackhoff confirmed Another Life‘s cancellation on Twitter, where she thanked the audience, cast, and crew. In her tweet, she shared her desire for a third season, saying, “I wish we could do more seasons but sadly it’s just not in the cards.” Sackhoff ended her message with “See you on the next adventure” before signing it “Love Niko.” Check out Sackhoff’s tweet below:

Another Life was never a hit with critics, as the show holds a 6% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. While it was labeled as trope-heavy and often ineffective, the series found an audience, likely in part to Sackhoff’s involvement. However, even audience support only saw the series earn a 69% Fresh rating from audiences. Still, fans can be vocal when a series they love gets the ax, with many already responding to Sackhoff’s tweet with disappointment and support. Sackhoff is also no stranger to the deep fandom in the sci-fi community, following her time as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica and her role as Bo-Katan on The Mandalorian.

Another Life getting a third season elsewhere seems unlikely given the poor response to the show. However, Sackhoff should have no trouble bouncing back and could easily return for The Mandalorian season 3. As for what’s next, Sackhoff looks to be part of The Last Transport, another sci-fi project about a doomed Earth. With Another Life‘s cancellation, it shares a storied history with many other shows that will live on through the fans.
