He was born in 1973 in Ariparambu, Cherthala, Alappuzha district, Kerala, India. Anup is a great actor and is known for his comic roles. He did several hit films that brought him immense fame such as Rasathantharam (2006), Classmates (2006), and Shakespeare MA Malayalam (2008). He is also a social worker and has been associated with many social issues. She is now a part of the famous reality show Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 1.

Anoop Chandran did his schooling from Cherthala South Government High School, Cherthala and graduation from NSS College, Cherthala. After completing his studies, Anoop started taking acting training from the School of Drama and Fine Arts.
He got his first break in 2004 in director Ranjith’s Malayalam film Black as Poly. In 2014, he judged the comedy reality TV show Lunars Comedy Express aired on Asianet. In 2017, he received the Asianet Comedy Award for Best Actor for his role in the TV serial Aluvayam Mathikuriyam.
In 2018, Anup participated in the controversial reality show Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 1. He gets paid ₹70,000 per day to stay in the Bigg Boss Malayalam house.

- In 2013, Anoop was arrested for disrupting the Youth Congress meeting in Cherthala. In the same year, Youth Congress supporters had filed an FIR against Anoop accusing him of assaulting them and using abusive language. Later he withdrew both the complaints.
