Annemarie has spoken openly about the horrific event, telling how her mother’s health quickly deteriorated and doctors discovered a large lung tumor during a routine check-up.
Despite her intense pain, Annemarie preferred not to reveal her mother’s condition to her colleagues during filming, preferring to keep her feelings separate. In an interview before the reunion, Annemarie revealed that her mother died of stage IV lung cancer three months after filming ended, highlighting the devastating effect it had on her family.
She added that she decided to tell her story during the reunion to process her grief and raise awareness of the difficulties she faced at the time.
