The heiress, philanthropist, and successful star of the Netflix reality series “Bling Empire,” Anna Shay, has died aged 62. According to a family announcement sent to The Associated Press on Monday, Shay died of a stroke.

It is not clear when she died. The family released a statement saying it was “deeply heartbroken to announce the passing of Anna Shay, a devoted mother, grandmother, charismatic star and brightest ray of sunshine.”

“Anna taught us many lessons about enjoying the finer things in life and not taking life too seriously. We will never forget the impact she had on our lives, but we will always miss her.

Shay, a socialite from Los Angeles, made a fortune after she and her brother sold Pacific Architects and Engineers after their father passed away. She admitted to OprahMag.com in a 2021 interview that when she joined the cast of “Bling Empire,” which follows the lives of extremely wealthy Angelenos of Asian descent, she had no idea what she was getting herself into.

Shay first believed that her friend Jeff Jenkins, the show’s executive producer, wanted her to work behind the scenes. “The next thing I knew I was sitting in front of the camera. It was a challenge for me because I was very shy. Even at my age, I don’t think about it,” she said. There have been comparisons between the series and the hit series “Crazy Rich Asians.” After three seasons and opening in 2021, the series was recently cancelled.

Shay is a mainstay in Los Angeles high society and a fan favorite character on the show. She is the only child of Ai-San, his half-Russian, half-Japanese wife and American millionaire, the founder of defense and government services company Edward Shay.

The reality star grew up in Japan and was born there. Her only son, Kenny Kemp, also rose to fame after appearing briefly on the show and amassing an expensive bubble collection, BuzzFeed News reported.
