Anna Hakobyan is the wife of Nikol Pashinyan, the 16th Prime Minister of Armenia, and the editor-in-chief of the famous Armenian daily, “Hayakan Zamanak” (The Armenian Times). She gained recognition after participating in the 2018 Armenian Revolution, which led to the ouster of previous Armenian PM Serzh Sargsyan and the coming to power of her husband Nikol Pashinyan as the new Prime Minister of Armenia.

Anna Hakobyan was born on Wednesday, 1 February 1978 (age 42 years; as in 2020) in Yerevan, Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, USSR (now Republic of Armenia). She aspired to become a professional journalist since childhood. Therefore, to fulfill his ambition, he graduated from the Journalism Department at the University of Yerevan in 1997. After that, she did various short-term courses from the American University of Armenia until 2001 and then returned to the journalism field. Before starting her career as a journalist in 2003, she took journalism training at local and international institutions to hone her journalism skills.

Family
Despite having four children, the couple, Anna Hakobyan and Nikol Pashinyan, did not officially marry each other until 2018. They became legally married on 8 May 2018, when Nikol Pashinyan was elected as Prime Minister of Armenia. They have four children – three daughters, Mariam, Shushan and Apry, and one son, Ashot Pashinyan (born in 2000), who is currently serving in the Armenian military.

livelihood
He worked at “Hekakan Zamanak” (The Armenian Times) as a journalist from 2003 to 2008. Later, he temporarily took over as editor-in-chief of the newspaper after Nikol Pashinyan (the previous editor-in-chief) was jailed. 2008 He officially took over as editor-in-chief of The Armenian Times in 2013 and has served in the post since then.
charitable work
Following the election of Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister of Armenia in 2018, he launched two charitable foundations, the “My Step” Foundation and the “City of Smiles” Foundation. “My Step” Foundation works towards improving Armenia in five key areas, i.e. social, educational, health, cultural and environment. On the other hand, “City of Smiles” Foundation was started to provide support and professional support service to children and youth in their journey to overcome cancer.

women for peace campaign
She is also the ambassador of the Armenian peace campaign, “Women for Peace”, which was launched to promote peace and harmony between Azerbaijan and Armenia and a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh region dispute between the two countries. This campaign is completely non-political in nature. After setting up the campaign, he said,
Women can unite, unite, raise their voices and strive for peace so that there will be no more shootings on the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Artsakh-Azerbaijani border and on both sides to the governments and leaders of both countries There should be no casualties. Achieve conflict resolution.”
Facts/General Knowledge
- Since she began journalism, she has actively participated in various political and public events and has been vocal on social issues in Armenia. She also participated in Armenia’s Velvet Revolution of 2018, which was led by her husband and then-member of the Armenian Parliament, Nikol Pashinyan.
- In October 2020, amid the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, she conducted military training exercises with 12 other women in her squad to join Armenia’s armed forces fighting against Azerbaijan in the Karabakh border region.
