Ankita Aggarwal was born in Bihariganj, Bihar. He received his early education from Modern Public School, Bihariganj, Bihar, after which his family shifted to Kolkata. He did his further schooling from DPS, Kolkata. Ankita later obtained her bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Ankita wanted to become an IAS officer since her school days.

Before clearing UPSC 2022, Ankita worked in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) as she passed her UPSC AIR 236 in 2019. However, she wanted to become an IAS, so she gave her third attempt and secured AIR 2. Ankita prepared for her civil services exam. From a reputed coaching institute located in Rajinder Nagar area of New Delhi. Ankita chose Political Science and International Relations as her optional subjects. In 2019, Ankita participated in the mock test interview conducted by Shubhra Ranjan IAS Study Pvt. Ltd. Ltd. Ankita scored 1050 marks out of 2025 marks in UPSC 2022.

- Talking about the preparation for Civil Services in an interview, Ankita said, I prepared through self-study as well as coaching. I believe both play equally important roles in a candidate’s life. Apart from basic books, I kept myself updated with current affairs and read newspapers and monthly magazines.
- During an interview, Ankita said that after joining the service, she wanted to work for women empowerment, primary health and school education sectors.
- Explaining the reason behind pursuing a career in civil services, she said that I was clear about my goal and hence I decided not to enroll for a postgraduate degree. I worked for a year and then started preparing for UPSC. I passed the exam in 2019 and joined IRS but my aim was to join Indian Administrative Services. So I appeared for the exam again in 2021. This was my third attempt.
- When asked about preparation and the mantra of success, Agarwal said,
I used to devote maximum hours to exam preparation. Instead of putting in a certain number of hours, I tried to maintain a steady study schedule.
- During her college days, Ankita was a part of the Campus Placement Cell and The Finance and Investment Cell. She was also editor-in-chief of the yearbook editorial team and joined the Economics Society.
- In 2015, Ankita joined a summer internship for two months at CRY (Child Rights and You), an Indian NGO that works towards ensuring the rights of children and in 2016, she joined the Pratham Joined another summer internship for 3 months at , a non-governmental organization that works towards providing quality education to underprivileged children in India.
- Ankita also represented her college in basketball, however, she met with an accident in her final year of college, so she quit playing.
- Ankita revealed in an interview that she had left all social media platforms while preparing for Civil Services.
