Anish Dayal Singh was born on Wednesday, 9 December 1964 (age 59 years; as in 2023) in Uttar Pradesh, India. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. After completing his schooling, Aneesh pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree. After completing his formal education, Singh appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and was successful in passing it. Subsequently, he reported to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana, where he took a police training module.

After completing his police training at SVPNPA on 21 August 1989, Anish Dayal Singh was allotted Manipur cadre. He held various important appointments in Manipur Police.
Anish joined the Manipur cadre at a time when militancy was at its peak in the north-eastern parts of India. After being promoted to the post of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Aneesh was sent to New Delhi on central deputation. There, he was appointed as Joint Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB); He became a special director in the IB. He became the Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on 4 October 2023. He was also given additional charge as Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
He took command of the ITBP when relations between India and China were at their lowest and tensions were rising along the border, called the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The official press release of the Government of India states,
The undersigned seeks approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for the appointment of Shri Anish Dayal Singh, IPS (MA:88), presently serving as Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB), to the post of Director General, India. is directed. Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).”
In November 2023, he was given the additional responsibility of CRPF chief after SL Thaosen retired from service. Anish is scheduled to retire from service on December 31, 2024.
