Andrew Abbott’s career
Andrew started his swimming career in high school where he excelled. In swimming, he was selected four times to the Piedmont County first-place team, twice named to the All-State team, and four times received the All-County Piedmont title. Meanwhile, he continued to play baseball, and was the captain of the swimming and baseball teams twice in a row.
During his high school athletic career, he won the All-Piedmont Academic Team titles in baseball and swimming four times each. He then decided to pursue baseball and was named the Northern Region Player of the Year and State 5A in 2017.
Additionally, he was named Piedmont County Player of the Year and Conference 16 Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017. He was selected by the New York Yankees in the 2017 MLB Draft and won the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and PBR Player of the Year awards in the same year.
In 2018, he committed to the Virginia Cavaliers and was named the newspaper’s All-American freshman by Baseball America & Collegiate Baseball. He was also selected to the ACC Freshman Team for his stellar performance and record six saves, the most in the ACC.
He was named to the ACC All-Academic team next year in 2019, along with five other teammates, and hit 59 strokes in 44 innings as a sophomore. He was selected as a pitcher for the US University National Team and has successfully led the team to make new marks.
He recently rose to #7 on D1 Baseball.com’s list of 50 best college baseball pitchers, and this year, in 2021, he’s named pre-season third-team all-American pitcher and second-team pre-season all-American pitcher.
