The name Ambati Rayudu is too familiar to every cricket lover. The 37-year-old cricketer has been in the IPL since 2010 and has played for two of the most successful teams, the Mumbai Indians (2010-17) and the Chennai Super Kings (2018-23). As part of MI and CSK, Rayudu has won five IPL titles.

Rayudu is known for his explosive batting skills and impeccable batting. He often hits the ball out of rotation and occasionally acts as a keeper. Rayudu is considered one of the best middleweight tennis players in Indian history. He was also part of a number of controversies and had many clashes with opposing players, the on-field umpire and the board management.

Biography of Ambati Rayudu

  • Ambati Rayudu was born on September 23, 1985 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India.
  • His father Sambasiva Rao works in the archives department.
  • Rayudu credits his father for the success and development of his passion for cricket. His father took him to practice sessions, training sessions and tournaments.
  • At the age of 16, Rayudu was in the spotlight after going 177 undefeated against England in the ODI U-19 series in 2002.
  • He then played for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy, becoming the youngest player to score his hundred and centuryth goal in the same match.
  • Rayudu captained team India at the 2004 ICC Under-19 World Cricket Championship. The team finished as a semi-finalist.
  • After a few quiet years, Rayudu joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL) “rebellion” against BCCI guidelines and risked a permanent ban.
  • However, he was pardoned by the BCCI and recruited by the Mumbai Indians prior to the 2010 IPL season.
  • Rayudu achieved success playing for MI and was instrumental in the team’s success. MI won three IPL titles in 2013, 15 and 17, with Rayudu being one of the team’s top scorers.
  • He was bought by Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and lifted the IPL trophy again in 2018 and 21.
  • Rayudu made his international debut in 2013 against Zimbabwe. He was part of the 2015 World Cup team but didn’t get a chance to play. He was unable to feature in the 2019 World Cup squad and soon announced his retirement from all form of cricket, but later abandoned it.
