Amanda Stott-Smith died at the Wilsonville, Oregon Correctional Facility in Coffee Creek, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections Sunday.

After throwing his two children off the Sellwood Bridge in 2009, Stott-Smith was charged with attempted aggravated murder. On May 23, 2009, 4-year-old Eldon Smith died of a fall after falling from a height of 75 feet.

Trinity Smith, 7, was later rescued after hearing two people’s cries for help, having avoided the fall.

Stott-Smith was sentenced to life in prison in April 2010 with a 35-year pardon. Stott-Smith expressed regret during sentencing.

“I want to sincerely apologize to everyone present today, especially my children,” she said.

Trinity and Eldona were rescued from the Willamette River by Cheryl Robb and Dave Haag in 2009. When they heard Trinity cry for help, they launched their boat. The Oregon State Police investigate every death that occurs while someone is in their care. Stott-Smith’s cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

Amanda Stott-Smith, the mother who killed one of her children by throwing them from the Sellwood Bridge into the Willamette River in Portland in 2009, died in custody at the age of 45.

According to the Oregon Department of Corrections, Stott-Smith died in the early morning hours of June 4 at Coffee Creek Correctional Institution. Stott-Smith’s cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, which has been scheduled.

After pleading guilty to the intentional murder of her 7-year-old daughter, Trinity, and to the murder of her 4-year-old son, Eldon, Stott-Smith was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for 35 years. Trinity survived a 70-foot drop.
