Alex Mansuroglu Wikipedia, Radio 1, BBC, Age, Net Worth – Two prominent radio DJs gave a group of De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) students and alumni a valuable lesson in self-assurance and communication.

Alex Mansuroglu of KISS FM, who has also hosted the Early Morning Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1, and Sam Darlaston of KISS FM and E4 gave aspiring businesspeople enrolled in the university’s new Leicester Future BAME Entrepreneur programme advice on overcoming self-doubt.
The practical session was part of an attempt to help students from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds develop their entrepreneurial skills, and it was held in London.
Alex, who is Turkish by birth, emphasised to the children that they should embrace their individuality and draw on their varied life experiences to help them discover their true selves.
“I have encountered many difficulties as a result of my ethnicity, but I have turned those difficulties into advantages and accepted that being unique from others is a good thing,” he stated. People who simply copy and paste other people’s work will inevitably fail, though they might succeed briefly.
I grew up in a little village in the Midlands, Sam continued. Worker class is who I am. However, there are also people like me who got where we are through grit and determination. Many people in the media industry were able to advance because they knew someone who helped them. Maintain your self-confidence and move forward.
A branch of the university’s popular Leicester Future Entrepreneurs programme, Leicester Future BAME Entrepreneur is funded by the Office for Students.
It was made in response to a 2020 report from the British Business Bank and Oliver Wyman that claimed Asian and other ethnic minority entrepreneurs have a significantly lower success rate for starting a business, while Black entrepreneurs report lower turnover and profit than White entrepreneurs.
One of the students that participated in the initiative and travelled to London to see the radio duo was Information Communication Technology student and Enactus DMU society President Komal Shahzadi.
“The session with Sam and Alex was the best trip I’ve ever taken,” she remarked. I gained a lot of knowledge from the training, especially on the importance of teamwork and communication, which I will carry with me.
Marcus Dove, a DMU alumnus who has successfully established himself as a respected artist, and We Are PEAC, a Leicester-based coaching firm, presented courses at Leicester Future BAME Entrepreneur.
The programme was supported by award-winning DMU academic Natasha Mwilia, mentors from Hello Sales and The Little IP Company, and others. It culminated in a networking session at LCB Depot’s well-liked Last Friday event.
DMU Entrepreneurship’s manager, Simon Baines, stated that “our students and alumni appreciated the workshops we undertook in London. The events took place on the second day of the programme, and by the time they were over, the participants had changed.
It was quite empowering for them to have the chance to talk about their own struggles and learn that, in reality, the majority of aspiring business owners have these sentiments of self-doubt. We were all really impressed and inspired by the personal growth they underwent throughout this unique week.
In the upcoming academic year, Sam and Alex will visit the campus of the university to take part in the DMUmade Creative Entrepreneurship programme, which is available to all DMU students and graduates, as well as to deliver a speech at the university’s annual Entrepreneurship Day Conference.
