Alex Ferns is the eldest of three children whose family moved to South Africa from Scotland when Ferns was 11 years old. [1] The family moved to Secunda, where Ferns’ father worked as an electrician during the construction of the power plant. [1] He joined the South African Defense Force after leaving school and fought in Angola between 1987 and 1989. He then went on to study theater at the University of Cape Town.
