Early life

Albert Lin – Career and professional life
Lin met Tony Hsieh at Harvard, the future CEO of Zappos. Hsieh first recognized his business acumen while running a student-owned pizzeria at Harvard. Similarly, Lin, who was his best customer, would buy whole pizzas, cut them into slices, and sell them for a profit.
Furthermore, in the year 1996, Lin gave up a Ph.D. program at Stanford. Therefore, joining Hsieh at LinkExchange as CFO. And, after 18 months, ‘LinkExchange’ was sold to Microsoft for $265 million. Before joining Zappos, he was Vice President of Finance and Business Development at Tellme Networks (MSFT).
Similarly, along with Hsieh, he also co-founded Venture Frogs, an incubation and investment company. In addition, ‘Venture Frogs’ invested in various Internet technologies and startups, including OpenTable, Tellme Networks, Ask Jeeves, and Zappos.
Additionally, from 2005 to 2010, Lin was president, COO, and CFO. Additionally, at Zappos, he was responsible for all financial, administrative, and warehouse operations. Similarly, Lin was also responsible for the company’s growth and scale, leading the company to its first profitable year in 2006. Additionally, his $265 million deal came at LinkExchange, which was sold to Microsoft when he was vice president of finance and administration. Later, he also helped ‘Tellme Networks’. And it was sold to Microsoft for $800 million. After that, he helped form Zappos, which was later acquired by Amazon for $1.2 billion.
He has invested in Airbnb, Achievers, Stella & Dot, Houzz, Kiwi, Romotive, Moovit, Humble Bundle, Styleseat, Uber, Cardpool, AppBistro/MMTG Labs (acquired by InMobi), and SalesCrunch. Additionally, he specializes in consumer Internet, enterprise, and mobile enterprises.
Additionally, he was one of the early investors in Zipline. Hence, a drone drug delivery company with operations in Rwanda. Lin invested in Palo Alto-based security company Cobalt Robotics and sits on its board of directors. Similarly, in 2013, ‘Forbes’ named Lin as one of the “30 Most Influential People in Technology.”
