Alamgir Tareen (1961–2023) was a Pakistani businessman and owner of Multan Sultans, who committed suicide by shooting himself in the head in July 2023.

Alamgir Khan Tareen was born in 1961 (age 63 at the time of death) in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan. From 1971 to 1976, he completed his schooling from CCH: Cadet College, Hasan Abdal, Punjab. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and later a master’s degree from Yale University, Connecticut. After completing his formal education, he started working in his father’s business in Multan.

He joined his father’s company, Shamin & Company Pvt Ltd, Multan’s largest bottler maker PepsiCo, in the 1990s and eventually became its managing director (MD). He operated the largest water purification plant in Pakistan.

Death
Alamgir Tareen committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a pistol on 6 July 2023 at his residence in Gulberg, Lahore. His maid Alamdar found him dead and became suspicious when Alamgir did not open his room despite repeatedly knocking on the door. The maid informed the police who later took the body to a local hospital.
Reportedly, the police found a suicide note near his body in which Alamgir allegedly cited an illness which forced him to commit suicide. After the news of his demise went viral, many people paid tribute to him on social media platforms and some also expressed the need to give importance to mental health.
Facts/General Knowledge
- After his death, two suicide letters went viral, one in English and the other in Urdu. Reportedly, both were written by him; However, many people claimed that both of them were fake.
- His alleged fiancé Shazo claimed after his death that he was not suffering from any serious physical condition; However, he did not give any reason for his suicide.
