Akshata Murthy was born in April 1980 (age 42 years; as in 2022) in Hubli, Karnataka. She did her schooling from Baldwin Girls’ High School in Bangalore. He enrolled at Claremont McKenna College in California to complete his undergraduate studies in economics and French. She holds a Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing Technology from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California. In 2013, she became a director of Catamaran Ventures. He began serving as a board member of Claremont McKenna College and the San Francisco Exploratorium in 2017. She is the director of two companies namely New & Lingwood, a men’s apparel company, and Digme Fitness, a gym chain.
Controversy
In April 2022, Akshata Murthy was questioned over her income tax status in the UK. According to some media reports, he claimed non-domiciled tax status in the UK, which exempted him from paying tax on dividend profits received from foreign companies. Subsequently, her husband Rishi Sunak faced allegations regarding his wife’s income from Russia, where Murthy’s company Infosys was operating even during the Russia-Ukraine War. Later, in a statement, Infosys announced the withdrawal of its services from Russia.
