Akhil Mishra (1956–2023) was an Indian actor and director, who worked predominantly in the Hindi film and TV industry. He is best known for playing the role of librarian Dubey in the popular 2009 Bollywood film ‘3 Idiots’. In 2023, he died from an accident in his kitchen at the age of 67.

In 1985, he made his TV debut with DD National’s Hindi TV series ‘Rajini’.
He appeared as Funtoosh, an advertising film director, in DD National’s popular Hindi sitcom ‘Shriman Shrimati’ (1994–1999). From 2009 to 2013, he played the role of Umed Singh Bundela in Colors TV’s popular Hindi TV series ‘Uttaran’. Some other Hindi TV shows in which he appeared include Star Plus’s ‘Hatim’ (2004), Life OK’s ‘The Adventures of Hatim’ (2013), and Colors TV’s ‘Udaan’ (2014).
Death
He died on 21 September 2023, at the age of 67, after collapsing in the kitchen of his home in Mumbai. Reportedly, Akhil was facing health issues related to high blood pressure for some time. On the day of the accident, he was working in the kitchen when he fell and hit his head. Later, he was found lying on the floor bleeding and was immediately taken to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he could not be saved and died a few hours later.
Facts/General Knowledge
- According to his wife Suzanne Bernert, Akhil Mishra took a break from his acting career to help him learn Hindi and perform better in Hindi films.
- He joined an acting school in Mumbai to learn acting; However, he lost interest in studying acting and dropped out of acting school. Later, he started actively participating in theatrical productions. After gaining popularity in the theater industry, the acting school from which he dropped out hired Akhil as an acting teacher.
- In an interview, he said that rather than any favorite actor, he liked the performances of actors and he mostly liked the acting of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
