- In January 2010, Ajay’s wife Vandana filed a complaint of pickpocketing with the police. According to police, the wife of a high-ranking CISF officer Ajay Bhatnagar was targeted by pickpockets in the capital. The incident occurred at Select City Mall in Saket, South Delhi, when the couple was shopping. A police officer told the media that when Vandana and her husband reached near a shop, they saw that her purse was open. This made him feel uneasy, so he decided to investigate. Soon, he discovered that his credit card and cash were missing. The officer said,
The couple had gone to the mall on Sunday. During the shopping, Vandana had her credit card and Rs 5,500 taken out from her purse.
- On 24 January 2018, Ajay Bhatnagar was given the role of Joint Director in CBI. In January 2020, he was promoted to the position of Additional Director within the agency.
