Abbas Ansari is an Indian politician and skeet shooter. In 2022, he became a member of the Legislative Assembly from Mau constituency of Uttar Pradesh on the ticket of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party. He is the son of jailed mafia don and politician Mukhtar Ansari. In 2022, he was declared a fugitive by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court after he failed to appear in court in an illegal arms purchase case.

Abbas Ansari started his career as a skeet shooter. He is one of the few shooters who excels in all three categories – big bore skeet, rifle and pistol. Abbas won his first national championship in 2011 in the shotgun category.
After this he won two more gold medals in shooting national competitions. Later, he was selected in the Indian shooting team participating in international events. Abbas represented India in two Shooting World Cups in Germany and Finland.
In 2014, he was practicing for the Rio Olympics, however, he could not qualify for it due to an accident. In 2015, he participated in the National Shotgun Shooting Championship.
Politics
Abbas started his career in politics by joining Bahujan Samaj Party in 2016. In 2017, he contested the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from Ghosi constituency on the Bahujan Samaj Party ticket. However, he lost the election to Fagu Chauhan of Bharatiya Janata Party.
In 2022, Abbas won the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from Mau. He had contested the elections on behalf of Samajwadi Party’s ally Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party.
This seat was earlier held by his father Mukhtar Ansari; Mukhtar represented Mau Sadar constituency as MLA five times since 1996.
During a media interaction, when journalists asked him why his father did not file his nomination, Abbas replied,

Declared ‘fugitive’
An FIR was lodged against Abbas Ansari on October 12, 2019 by Inspector Ashok Singh, the then in-charge of Mahanagar police station. It was alleged in the FIR that Abbas had obtained a gun license from Lucknow and then got it transferred to Delhi, where he purchased several weapons. The charge sheet was filed against him on 24 December 2020. Later, the court issued an arrest warrant against Abbas for fraudulently purchasing multiple weapons on the same arms license. Several summons were issued against him, but Abbas did not appear in court. The MP-MLA court also extended the time of his arrest thrice, but due to his repeated absence from the court, MPMLA Court’s special ACJM Ambrish Srivastava, on the request of the police, issued 82 Code of Criminal Procedure against Abbas and declared him ‘absconding’. done. The court also issued a notice to seize his property, a non-bailable warrant and a lookout notice against him. Although Ansari had applied for anticipatory bail, the court did not approve it. The court rejected the application and said,
Considering the serious allegations that the accused-applicant got his arms license fraudulently registered and obtained a large number of prohibited barrels, weapons and cartridges on the basis of shooting; And he has purchased arms and cartridges, which are banned in shooting practice and are against the Government of India Notification dated 4.8.2014.

And also considering the fact that the accused-applicant is evading the process of the Court against whom the proclamation has been issued, this Court does not find any ground for granting anticipatory bail to the accused-applicant.

On November 12, 2022, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Prayagraj in a money laundering case. After his arrest, the agency produced him in a court in Prayagraj.
