Tired of exploring Washington’s political kooks and American political nonsense? So let’s go to the other side of the earth and explore British government at its funniest in the 2005 series called the thick of it.
This series broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Two focuses on entities that revolve around the government, but their parties and their different political leanings do not accurately reflect real life. Since this is satire, it’s also a good creative decision to make this show that way, to avoid genuine controversy for being too reflective of reality. We assume that the British do things differently, in fact.
So find out what is going on with the Prime Minister of the UK, the staff surrounding this leader, especially the press adviser, and of course the civil servants surrounding the leader. There’s also plenty of comedy gold to be mined from his interactions with the public and the scathing British media.

Perhaps we are focusing too much on the big shots in politics. So if you want smaller levels of political intrigue, situations, and laughs too, tune in Parks and Recreation.
This 2009 sitcom starred Saturday night live former student Amy Poehler. She played this bureaucrat named Leslie Knope who runs the Parks Department in Indiana. Yes, the status of this program is that small by Washington standards. But the laughs are not lacking, I promise! Amy Poehler alone brings a lot. And her co-stars over the years have never faltered at comedy. Imagine having cast members like Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Paul Schneider, Ron Swanson, Chris Pratt, and even Rob Lowe here!

Here’s another genius of a political comedy show that also focuses on small-level types of political goings-on: revolving city. Starring hilarious ’80s heartthrob Michael J. Fox in its original season, the show brilliantly focused on a stellar city and its political inner workings: New York. In fact, the Big Apple mayor’s office provided a lot of great comedy material here. And with Michael J. Fox at the helm, it was quite the show when it started.
Too bad Fox had to retire early because he got sick. ’80s bad boy Charlie Sheen took the reins, but maybe he’s not really much of a comedian. However, the show is still good at catching Hulu and seeing the cleverness of this late ’90s material.
1600 Penn
Can you imagine the comedian from the movie Bill Pullman from While you were Sleeping as president of the United States? And if dharma and greg Jenny Elfman as the wife of the President of the United States, the second one, though? Then these formidable actors can also put on a formidable show. that was called 1600 Penn.
Knowing that the title of this comedy refers to the presidential address is also a clue that the wacky political events here don’t necessarily revolve around politics per se, but rather America’s first family sitting there on the can. This time, the show focused more on the in-laws in a rather dysfunctional household. Benson gets a higher position this time, no longer as a butler, but in charge of internal affairs for a governor and his daughter. The Governor is also a widow trying to balance things in the affairs of her estate with the state of affairs in her own house. Oh, did we mention that the governor’s daughter is still a teenager? Golden comedy, without a doubt!
