Zoravar’s mother Luvjit Kalra was a housewife. Luvjeet died on 3 January 2021 after suffering from a prolonged illness. Zorawar’s brother Ajit Kalra is a restaurant owner.

On 30 July 2006, Zorawar married Dildeep Sehgal, who is a director of Massive Restaurants. In an interview, Zorawar recalled his meeting with Dildeep Sehgal and said that both of them met at their common friend’s party. He said,
Dildeep often came to Delhi to spend time with common friends. We used to meet each other at many parties and our relationship started in 2005.
The couple has two children named Fateh Kalra and Aliya Kalra.

In 2006, Zorawar established his first entrepreneurial venture, ZK Restaurant Concepts. In 2012, Zorawar founded Massive Restaurants. Zorawar Kalra owns various fine-dining restaurant brands in India and abroad such as Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra, Made in Punjab, Farzi Café, Pa Pa Ya, Masala Bar and BO-TAI. In an interview with Forbes India, Zorawar Kalra talked about his Farzi Café which has outlets in London and said,
Farzi Cafe London is a very progressive, cutting edge Indian restaurant. It takes global influences and gives them an Indian twist. The menu is also unique, and while it includes some typical dishes from Dubai, Riyadh and India, it is 90% original to London. There are a lot of familiar flavors in our food, but they are presented in very different ways, so there is always an element of surprise. We have also taken a lot of British ‘classics’ and given them a ‘Fargified’ twist, which basically means we have added some Indian sensibility and flavor along with the boldness.’

In 2016, Zorawar made his television debut with the Hindi reality show MasterChef India Season 5, in which he appeared as a host.
Zorawar Kalra replaced Chef Sanjeev Kapoor as the judge of the reality show in MasterChef India Season 5. In July 2022, Zorawar Kalra appeared as a participant in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 10. In an interview, she talked about her participation in the dance show and said that she had no knowledge about dancing before performing in the show. He said,
I had no knowledge about dance and for me it was difficult on the body and mind. I want to represent the common man who wants to learn dance but is not able to learn or has not got the opportunity. I am here to entertain people and my work is done. But [in the process]At least I will develop and learn a lot of dancing skills with my choreographer Suchitra (Savant Sangare), who is incredible.”
Controversy
Excise department raid on Zorawar’s restaurant
In September 2019, New Delhi’s Excise and Taxation Department raided Zorawar’s Famous Thai Restaurant in Mehrauli, New Delhi after receiving information about violations. Reportedly, the restaurant was serving liquor without duty payment and evading taxes. The restaurant was also found serving bottles of branded champagne, excise duty of which was paid only in Haryana. According to officials, the restaurant was open even after 1 am, while the permissible time limit was till 1 am. In an interview, Zorawar’s company spokesperson Amit Grewal talked about this and said,
We have always been in compliance with the laws in all our restaurants. We are also cooperating with authorities in their investigation related to one of our restaurants.

In fact, my son didn’t want me to do it because he thought I might embarrass him in front of his friends by dancing poorly. He said, no. But eventually, I decided to take it up as a big challenge. And it’s always good to overcome difficult things. So, that’s why I said yes. But it’s definitely something that’s not in my comfort zone.”
- Zorawar was fond of cars since a very young age. His first car was a second-hand Honda Acura, which he bought while pursuing a master’s degree at Bentley University in the United States. In an interview, Zorawar talked about his passion for cars and revealed that he did not like other people to touch his vehicles unless they were his close friends and relatives. He said,
I don’t usually allow too many people to touch my car but close friends and relatives are definitely welcome. However, they should respect the vehicle because it is very dear to me.
