Zain Nadella’s medical condition
When Zain’s mother was in her thirty-sixth week of pregnancy, she noticed that the baby was not moving properly in her stomach. So Zain’s parents went to the hospital for a routine checkup. Upon examination, the doctors discovered that there was something abnormal with the pregnancy, so they went for an emergency cesarean section. Zayn weighed three pounds at birth and did not cry right after his birth. Later, the doctor examined him and discovered that he was born with cerebral palsy, a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. Within a short time of his birth, he was taken to a children’s hospital called Seattle Children’s Hospital, Washington, US. Zain spent his entire life in the hospital as he was undergoing treatment there. Talking about Zain in an interview, his father said,
As parents, our lives are shaped by the needs of our children, and our hope is that by honoring Zayn’s journey, we can improve and innovate care for future generations in every community. Zayn loves music and his interests span across eras, genres and artists. He loves everything from Leonard Cohen to Abba to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and he wanted to fill his room with music that suited him at any time through these artists.
During an interview, Zain’s sister Tara said,
Zayn’s lessons have made me passionate about ensuring that every voice is heard and respected because a quiet voice is not a lesser voice. The staff, nurses and doctors at Seattle Children’s epitomize a compassionate, respectful understanding of my brother’s rights. They also teach young advocates like me by example, showing how leadership in inclusivity is fundamental to driving change toward greater acceptance. Whenever possible, I talk to people about the importance of inclusion. I use personal experiences that have given me a unique perspective to share and inform others.
