Speaking to 4WWL, Christian explained that he waited to talk about his diagnosis because “it happened so quickly.”
“A lot of me had to deal with this first,” he said, noting that he lost 35 pounds while receiving treatment for the treatable but fast-growing cancer after a tumor was found behind his eye.
“I had never spent a day in the hospital in my 65 years until this year,” he said.
As for how he was diagnosed, Christian said there were some concerning signs that led him to see a doctor who put him on the right path.
“They put the wedding ring on me, Lauren and Michael’s, and I put my hand down and the ring fell off without friction,” she recalled. “I said, ‘Well, what a strange thing.’ My nose started bleeding on set. Sometimes this eye would get a little crooked because there was a tumor in the sinus cavity. If I hadn’t had an eye exam, I might have made more progress. It is a very fast cancer and that is its danger.”
The actor said that “fans noticed” and pointed out that sometimes his eye looked bad.
Fully recovered, Christian is preparing to return to The Young and the Restless. Its next episode is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day on November 23.
