Late last month, it was revealed that Showtime was going to push Liv for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, along with several of her co-stars on the hit series.

However, Liv is politely declining, and her reasoning stems from how the Emmys divide the categories into gender norms.

“There is no place for me in the acting categories,” they told Variety. “It would be inaccurate of me to introduce myself as an actress. It also doesn’t make sense to me to be lumped in with the boys.”

Liv added: “It’s quite simple and not that complicated. I can’t run for this because there’s no place for me.”

They also noted that even if the Emmys did take non-gender categories into account, it would most likely result in less recognition for female artists.

“There is an implicit fatalism there, which suggests that we all agree that equality is impossible. And that’s sad,” says Liv. “We are not going to start giving awards for best director and director, or for director of photography. “Because we all understand that implicitly it would be insulting. You can keep things the way they are now, I just won’t participate.”
