Meet Yann Pissenem, the incredibly inventive person behind some of Ibiza’s hottest nightclubs.
According to him, Pissenem’s relocation from Barcelona to Ibiza was essentially a make-or-break situation. “I had had it. I required a fresh start in my life. I packed everything into my old car and made a one-way reservation. My car’s gears failed just before getting on the ferry with a loud CRACK. “Do you really want to go?,” was how it felt to me. Pissenem’s response, delivered while being held up on the docks in the scorching heat in front of a line of honking drivers, was decisive. I declared, “I’m leaving! Not to me! I’m leaving! I pushed my car into first gear and gradually ascended the ramp. When we got there, I needed them assistance to push it out.
Pissenem is a warm and gregarious individual. He thinks and speaks quickly; he is passionate and full of ideas, which cross-fade over one another like a DJ. In his world and psyche, a lot is happening. The Night League, Pissenem’s business, has expanded swiftly. In 2008, it was just him and Joseph Rivas, but today he has a team of fifty.
During peak season, his clubs, H Ibiza and Ushuaa Ibiza Beach Hotel, employ an additional 750 employees. The locations frequently host some of the most well-known DJs on the planet and draw partygoers to match. The International Nightlife Association named H the World’s Best Club of 2018, with Ushuaa coming in at number two. Both locations are ranked in the top five clubs by DJ Magazine. Last year, a remarkable 1.5 million clubgoers danced at the locations, but it all began on a desolate beach.
The world is about to end.
Pissenem had been a club promoter in Barcelona for several years prior to his nerve-wracking ferry voyage. One of his pals suggested he check out a little eatery on Ibiza’s Playa d’en Bossa after learning of his desire to create a beach club. “It was wonderful when I got there and looked about. I adored the pure blue sea and how organic it seemed. On that beach, though, there was nothing. Everyone yelled, “What, there?!?” at me. Nobody’s coming!’ yet I was forced to remain when I saw it. The club was given the name Ushuaa to honor Pissenem’s celebration of his distant position; Ushuaa is the town in Patagonia known as “the end of the world.”
