Yar Muhammad Rind is a Pakistani politician and member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. As of 2022, he serves as the chief of the Rind tribe, president of the Balochistan chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and parliamentary leader of PTI in the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan.

Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind started his political career by joining the Pakistan Peoples Party in the 1980s. In March 1985, he became a member of the Senate of Pakistan on the general seat from the Balochistan constituency. He held this position until March 1988.

From 1993 to 1996, Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-201 Jhal Magsi-cum-Bolan (Kutchhi) constituency. In 1997, Rind contested the National Assembly election from NA-201 Jhal Magsi-cum-Bolan (Kachchi) on a Pakistan Peoples Party ticket and won. In 2002, he again won the National Assembly election from NA-267 Kachhi constituency. Rind served as the Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock from 2002 to 2007 during the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) government.
Member of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan
In 2008, Rind won the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan from PB-30 Bolan-I constituency on Pakistan Peoples Party ticket. However, the party lost the election and the government was formed by the National People’s Party (NPP). From 2008 to 2013, Rind served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan. In October 2015, he resigned from the National People’s Party and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. In the same year, Rind was appointed Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for Balochistan.
He held office until 25 December 2021. On 13 August 2018, he was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan from PB-17 Kachchi-cum-Mastung constituency on the ticket of the National People’s Party. On 20 March 2019, Rind was appointed to the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan as the Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on activities related to the ministries of Water Resources, Power and Petroleum in Balochistan.
He resigned from his post in March 2022 due to continuous neglect by the government and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Talking about this during a conversation with the media, Yar Muhammad said,
This is my final decision. i was special assistant [to prime minister] Only till the issuance of notification. I had no rights. I was not invited to any meeting on Balochistan… No one, including federal ministers, approached me for any meeting.
Rind also serves as the Provincial Minister for Secondary Education and Colleges, Technical and Higher Education in the Provincial Cabinet of Balochistan since 23 January 2020.
Facts/General Knowledge
- Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind has actively worked towards providing free education to children in Pakistan. In 2015, he along with his son started a project to provide free education, food and accommodation to about 400 Pakistani children.
- In November 2019, Rind laid the foundation stone of Mir Chakar Rind Grid Station in Dhadar, Balochistan.
- In 2022, some audio clips went viral on social media, in which Pakistani politician and former cricketer Imran Khan can be heard having inappropriate conversations with a woman, reportedly Rind’s ex-wife, Aila Malik.
