A magical new fan-art transforms WWE superstar Sasha Banks into the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Because of its inspiring message for all ages and backgrounds, Sailor Moon remains an influential part of Pop culture, especially in western audiences. So it’s no surprise that megastars like Sasha Banks would also be a fan of the powerful Sailor Senshi.
Based on the popular manga series by Naoko Takeuchi, Sailor Moon follows the life of Usagi Tsukino, a 14-year-old girl who discovers she’s the cosmic warrior Sailor Moon. As a Sailor Senshi, Usagi meets other Sailor Warriors, such as Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Jupiter. The popular manga debuted in 1991 and quickly became a giant within the magical girl genre. This popularity led to a 1992 anime adaptation produced by Toei Animation and a secret prequel manga Codename: Sailor V that follows the first awakened guardian Sailor Venus. A plethora of films have also been developed including the Netflix film Sailor Moon Eternal, on top of the 2014 anime reboot Sailor Moon Crystal.
On Twitter, artist @yamanaka_syubrt shared a cosmic fan art of Sasha Banks as Sailor Moon inspired by her Royal Rumble debut outfit. The Smackdown Raw Women’s Champion recently came off a foot injury but later returned to Smackdown in late January. Banks’ recent line of work includes her role in The Mandalorian season 2 as Koska Reeves. Now a Sailor Senshi, the fan art perfectly illustrates Sasha in the same iconic pose as Sailor Moon. On top of her authentically tailored Sailor Moon uniform that matches the Sailor Scouts’ original costume designs, the WWE wrestler looks out of this world surrounded by the cosmic accessories from the series.
In the same way that Sailor Moon fights for love and justice, Mercedes also shares this same passion in her career. Along with her alter ego name “Sasha Banks”, the actress is known as “The Boss” and is similar to Usagi and Sailor Moon. Having grown up a fan of Usagi (Serena), Banks readily admits to relating to the Sailor Scout and how she taught her to believe in herself.
Today, Sasha Banks serves as a role model for other young kids, embodying the very character that inspired her to pursue her dreams. Although Sailor Moon’s most powerful Sailor Guardians is a villain, Usagi and her friends prove that the power of friendship can overcome any evil force. Because of this, contemporary shonen manga and western comic books continue to draw inspiration from the popular shojo manga. But as for long-term Sailor Moon fans like Sasha Banks, the impact of the magical girl series translate further into the cosmos in this stunning new fan art.
