Wonder Woman 3 Reportedly Not In Development At DC Despite Gal Gadot’s Recent Comments

Summary

  • New reports contradict Gal Gadot’s recent comments about Wonder Woman 3, suggesting that DC Studios is not actively working on the sequel.
  • The confusion arises as DC Studios transitions into the DC Universe and starts from scratch with a Wonder Woman prequel series called Paradise Lost.
  • It remains unclear if a third Wonder Woman movie will happen, and if it does, it may be as an Elseworlds project rather than part of James Gunn’s DC Universe.

The news of Wonder Woman 3 happening at DC Studios is contradicted as new reports are refuting Gal Gadot’s recent comments on the sequel. Despite the massive reboot that is on the way from DC Studios, Gadot took the world by storm recently when she revealed that Wonder Woman 3 was in the works even after Patty Jenkins departed the project. This also caused a lot of confusion as to what is and isn’t being kept from the DCEU as DC Studios transitions into the DC Universe.

It appears that Gadot may have jumped the gun when it comes to Wonder Woman 3 being in development. According to new reports from Collider and Variety, DC Studios is not actively working on Wonder Woman 3 in any capacity. As of publication, James Gunn has not made any comments on any of his social media accounts about Wonder Woman 3 ever since Gadot first spoke about it.

Could Wonder Woman 3 Still Happen?

While it is unclear why Gadot spoke about Wonder Woman 3 as if it was actually happening, this latest development still begs the question if a third movie could happen down the line. If a sequel were to be produced, it would likely not be for quite a long time, especially as DC Studios haven’t even gotten started yet on Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters.” Wonder Woman 3 would likely happen as an Elseworlds project at this point rather than as an installment in Gunn’s DC Universe.

Given the fact that DC Studios is developing a Wonder Woman prequel series for Max, called Paradise Lost, it’s clear they are starting from scratch with the Themysciran heroine, hence the confusion about Gadot’s comments. Paradise Lost is taking place long before Diana was even born, which would likely focus on Themyscira in a different light from the DCEU. The only way Gadot could be the Wonder Woman of this continuity is if they make it clear that she is playing her own doppelganger, and isn’t just the DCEU iteration that somehow exists in the DC Universe.

Hopefully, Gunn, or even Gadot herself will clarify in the coming weeks what this was all about, as it seems unlikely the latter would lie about having had a meeting with DC Studios. Although it still raises questions why Gunn didn’t comment on Wonder Woman 3 right after her initial statement came out, as he is usually very good with confirming and denying news through his social media. For now, time will tell if Gadot ever gets her Wonder Woman 3 or even continue as the iconic Justice League hero.
