Charlie ‘Griff’ Griffin, who previously appeared in Evil Tuna: Outer Banks, He reportedly died along with his dog Leila in a boating accident.
In a post on his Facebook page, the news of Griffin’s death was confirmed. “It is with the deepest sadness that we report that Charlie Griffin and his beloved dog, Leila, passed away in a boating accident today, March 4,” the post reads. “Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. We will always remember Griff!
Although the publication did not share any details about the accident, the US Coast Guard told the Voice of the outer banks that Griffin’s boat disappeared on Sunday, March 3, near Oregon Inlet. It was noted that the boat is believed to have capsized in the same area. Griffin had been traveling from Virginia to Wanchese.
“The 35′ vessel was later located off Pea Island,” the Outer Banks Voice reported. “And the body of Charles Griffin Jr (Charlie Griffin) of Wanchese, North Carolina and his (deceased) dog were recovered on land near the same.”
Griffin also had a second occupant in the boat. The search is underway to find that person. It was also reported that the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is leading the ongoing investigation. Bids from U.S. Fish and Wildlife, National Park Service, North Carolina Marine Fisheries, Dare County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard are also assisting in the investigation.
Griffin and his Reels of Fortune team appeared in Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks from season 2 to season 5. The National Geographic show follows a group of “salty fishermen” who make a living fishing for bluefin tuna. Crews also fight each other to get the most profit.
