Debra picked up her two daughters from their father on June 5, 2005, saying she had a surprise for them. Once everyone was inside, Jeter pulled out a knife and attacked Kiersten first, who bravely shouted for his sister to run. But Kelsey’s mother quickly followed, and Kiersten was stabbed in the back as she tried to protect her sister from the barbaric attack.
Unfortunately for the two young girls, Debra was no match for them, so she brutally slit Kelsey’s throat. Then she also cut the injured Kiersten’s throat. But she was still alive and begged her mother to call for help, which she did not, despite being a registered nurse.
Scary 911 call
Jeter called 911 after completing the murder and informed the dispatcher that she had just killed her children. She said one of them was dead, but the other wanted to be rescued and needed urgent help.
While on the phone, Jeter can be heard reassuring the injured Kiersten and begging the operator not to shoot her because he doesn’t have a gun. Deputies arrived to find Debra with his arms raised and the murder weapon on top of a nearby vehicle. She was immediately taken into custody and recorded on a suicide note at the Hill County Law Enforcement Center.
The Verdict of Debra Jeter
The mother-of-two was charged with murder and attempted murder, and her bail was set at $1.5 million. In May 2010, she pleaded guilty and accepted a plea agreement that allowed her to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The defense saved her from facing the death penalty and prevented her daughter Kiersten from testifying about her mother’s brutality.
