Don Gullett’s wife, Cathy Gullett, has been married to the baseball star for 54 years. When the couple married in 1970, they were still teenagers. The Cincinnati Reds told the story of Gullett’s death, which occurred at the age of 73. The cause of death of three-time World Series champion pitcher, Gullett, has not been released.
Gullett was drafted out of McKell High School and made his debut for the Cincinnati Reds the following year. He was a member of the Reds club that won the first of two consecutive World Series titles. Gullett’s career was cut short at age 27 by a shoulder injury. The Reds inducted him into the Hall of Fame in 2002. The late baseball player served as an instructor for the Reds during the 1990s and 2000s. He spent the previous 13 years as a bullpen and pitching coach until he was fired in 2005.

On August 11, 1971, Don and Cathy had their first child, Don Gullett Jr. The couple’s eldest child followed in his father’s footsteps and continued his career in his favorite sport. Don Gullett Jr., who graduated from Shawnee State University, began his coaching career at Northern Kentucky University. During his time at NKU, the team won three GLVC Conference titles.
He then became the head coach of the Northern Kentucky Bandits, leading the club to the CABA World Series championship in 2004. Since 2001, Gullett Jr. teaches all ages one-on-one and works as a camp coordinator for youth camps for ages 6-18. Prior to taking over as head coach at Turpin High, Gullett Jr. served as general manager at 5 Star Midwest. In 2019, he was named coach of the year after leading Turpin to its first winning season since 2012. Don Gullett’s two daughters, Tracey and Angela, are not in the public eye. Angela is active on Facebook and has posted several family photos.

Don’s previous club, the Cincinnati Reds, confirmed his death on Wednesday. Reds CEO Bob Castellini said, “Don has dedicated 24 years to this franchise as a minor league player, coach and instructor.” One of the best pitchers in baseball history. His contribution to our rich heritage, city and community will never be forgotten.”
Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench wrote, “Don Gullett, the best athlete and competitor I have ever seen or played with!” “We will miss him.” Several Reds fans took to social media to pay tribute to the icon. One Reds fan remarked: “Don Gullett was my idol growing up. His family, who have been friends of our family for decades, allowed us to feel connected to him and root for him through high school and life. He was gentle and modest, but still loved his sport, family and friends. “I will miss my hero and friend.”
